Namco's Pole Position is one of the all-time classic arcade racing game and now, like many old school favorites, it's been remade for the iPhone.
Pole Position: Remix Lite is billed as an enhanced version of the racer, optimized especially for the iPhone hardware. It uses a control system whereby you steer by tilting your device from side to side. The car automatically accelerates and to slow down you just need to hold down the on-screen brake pedal.
To be honest, I think Pole Position: Remix Lite is one of those 'classic' titles that should have been consigned to the annuls of history. Or at least remade properly. The graphics are patchy, the gameplay is boring, the collision detection is appalling and quite frankly I couldn't find any reason why I'd want to keep playing this one. Which is lucky, because this Lite version only gives you one measly track to play on, which takes about a minute and a half to get around.
Probably the only thing I liked about Pole Position: Remix Lite was the soundtrack, which boasts a variety of toe-tapping, adrenaline pumping tunes.
I'm afraid only those with a real obsession for Pole Position will get anything out of this racing game.
